The weekends are always enjoyable these days..whether or not we are busy moving from one activity to the next or whether we have a lazy weekend at home. This past weekend was one of our first weekends in quite some time at home together as a family and it was very relaxing. With David traveling much of the week, that magical moment when he comes home on Friday afternoons and can play continually with Noah is a very sweet thing to watch. Noah often climbs up on his stool to look out the window and wait for his hero to come home. All I hear is "Daddy, Daddy, Daddy, Daddy" over and over again as he bangs on the window and then I know when David arrives in the driveway because Noah starts squealing at the top of his lungs. There was LOTS of playtime, tickles and giggles Friday night and then Saturday afternoon we were off to the park for a birthday party for one of Noah's friends. (that sounds so strange). Anyway, Noah is finally really getting into playgrounds and was thrilled to see the slides and swings. The birthday party was a ton of fun...until the inevitable "little boy accident--aka head injury" occured and put an end to the festivities for the Nelsons. Noah was trying to climb up on the picnic table bench and took a very nasty face plant onto the concrete. His poor head had 3 impacts as he hit the table, metal bar and the pavement on his way down face first. There was an immediate horrific goose egg (looked like he had a horn sticking out of his forehead), blood oozing from his mouth and LOTS of tears and screaming. We contemplated going to the ER but we managed to calm him down and eventually assessed that he was ok...despite how bad his face looked. By the end of the weekend, lucky for us, he had pretty much forgotten about the incident and was back to playing and being his sweet self. We even managed to make it back to another park this morning for a couple of hours of fun...with no bruises or blood to report from this endeavor.
I came across this poem while surfing the internet:
Little Boys:
Little boys come in all shapes and sizes,
Shy and adventurous, full of surprises,
With misshapen halos and mischievous grins,
Small dirty faces, and sweet, sticky chins.
They'll keep you so busy, and yet all the while
Nothing can brighten the world like their smile.
And no greater treasure has brought homes more joy
Than a curious, active, and lovable boy!
Waiting "patiently" for Daddy to get home and beating on the window yelling his name.
Couldn't resist taking this picture when I walked in and found him wearing my purse around his neck.
Walking from the car to the playground. I love seeing Noah walk and hold David's hand. He wanted to run ahead of us with everything in him but he was good and held on to Daddy's hand like we asked.
Slides, swings and tunnels...what more could a boy want?
